My First Gas Leak
Ah, the joys of homownership are upon us. I'd noticed that when I opened the door to the furnace/water heater "room" (really a large closet off the living room) I smelled a faint gas odor. I just kind of figured the room is small, maybe it's supposed to smell like that, I've never owned a water heater so what do I know, the apartment hasn't exploded yet blah blah blah (read: denial). Then I started thinking: hey, I DO have my own water heater and furnance in my current apartment, and they don't smell like gas...hmm, the reason they put that smell in gas is so that you know that when you smell it you should do something...
So we called the gas company after work today. I expected it to take hours, if not days, for someone to show up, but apparently when you say "hi peoples energy, I smell gas!" they show up in like 15 minutes. literally. and sure enough, it was a gas leak in one of the pipes in the furnance room that's close to the floor (the people who lived there before kept buckets, mops, cat litter etc back there--they probably stepped on it extracating all that crap). half an hour (and $89 dollars later!) it was fixed. no more gas smell. plus one of the guys they sent out was very impressed with our cabinets.
homownership rules.

homowners
C. would like you all to know that we are not just homeowners, were are "homowners" (noun, pronounced "homo owners").
gamerican homowners, to be specific.
she adds that "you can still save big money at menards!" and "I-man is a little bitch who takes a 45 minute shower".

my cabinets can beat your cabinets up
c. to the rev on the phone last night: "no, really, there are kickass cabinets in there."
she's really excited about the cabinets.

green acres
We closed. It took an hour. It was totally anti-climatic. Then we went to Target and scrubbed the place from top to bottom (it was generally pretty clean, but it just wouldn't feel right if we didn't clean it. Plus the refirgerator was nasty). Oh, and my car fits in the garage--barely, but it fits! my only complaint thus far is that i can kind of hear the guy upstairs walking around, and I'm not used to that since we live on the top floor in our apartment now. but we'll hear it less when we have our tv and stereo on in there and some furniture to stop the sound from echoing and stuff.
have i mentioned that the deck is GINORMOUS?
c. is thrilled with the cabinet space, which she describes as "neverending" and "insane". she's right, there is a lot of it. i figured out one of the cabinets is so big I could crawl into it and sleep.
so that's it. i'm exhausted. i don't know how i'm going to get any work done for thte rest of the week.

save big money
have you ever had one of those days where you get to like 3 o'clock and you're standing next to the copy machine (making copies) and you think "wow, i can't remember if i brushed my teeth this morning. did i? i think i did. god, i hope i did."
I asked C. if she wanted to go buy paint at Menard's today instead of the usual standby Home Depot, and now she can't stop singing "save big $ at menard's!" but really, really off key. like more off key than she usually sings. on purpose.
we close tuesday. we have to buy paint to paint that hideous yellow bedroom next weekend, then we move the weekend after that. it's exciting. i mean, for me. i'm sure you don't care. god that yellow is hideous.
